The recent spy/sniper update. Part 2.
The Cloak and Dagger is the new amazing unlock for the spy. The basics are that when you are standing still, it is permanent cloak. And that when you move around, your cloak is consumed. When you are falling you consume your cloak quicker, and it does not work underwater ( as in you can’t permanently stand under water).

Now lets move on to why I like it so much. I, having played 23 hours of spy, unlike DivingSheep over there, with round about 9.5 hours of spy, I think I have a slightly better view on the new spy unlocks. The dead ringer is good, but it is too situational. By this, I mean being burned by a pyro and fake dying is fun, but if your killer burns for a few seconds longer you’re toast.
Example:
A couple of days ago, I was on www.saigns.de//GRAVELPIT ONLY, and was being pyro. I killed numerous spies around this engie’s sentry. However, with the server’s instant respawn, they could easily come back, so I ended up camping around this guy’s sentry. I saw that when I killed one spy the name came up in the corner, however 2 seconds later I saw a burning spy run away behind a rock. Being the normal pyro I am, I chased this burning figure, and killed him. It turned out to be the same spy I had just killed, I was perplexed. It was not until a few seconds later that I realised that he had The Dead Ringer. When he came back, I decided to continue burning evn after his burnt corpse had hit the ground, sure enough, he was burnt again and killed just seconds after the his feigned death.
There are good things about the Dead Ringer, but I think the Cloak and Dagger excels in many more areas. For example, it makes spycapping much easier, especially on attack/defence maps like Gravel Pit and Dustbowl. You can just stand in the corner, waiting for your team to capture A or B, and then, Bam, unleash a can of spycap on their sorry faces. It also makes some situations where you normally would be doomed escapable. E.g. Iwas playing as a spy on Gravel Pit, point c, and was standing in the corner, I saw a pyro flaming everywhere right in front of me but, instead of freaking out, I stood still in the corner – with my permanent cloak- and let his flames miss, he didn’t know i was there and would probably leave seconds later. I was then safe to cap the point later on. This has happened to me countless times, and probably more times in the future.
Now lets review:
Cloak and Dagger:

Pro: Allows an almost constant cloak
Con: Doesn’t allow easy escapes due to fast drain rate, especially while falling.
Pro: Can escape very narrow situations by just standing still
Con:Can’t pick up ammo boxes or weapons to regenerate your cloak.
The Dead ringer:

Pro: Great against non-pyro classes
Con: Pyro’s can kill you very easily after you haveĀ been fake killed
Pro: Fills you with a warmth that can only be gained through trickery
Con: Unable to cloak other than straight after death
